The global problem, in the sports world, has begun to explode and the global pandemic has ignited the spark that caused the noise to go under the sky. It has brought a lot of new demographics to the esports world. A real irony is that, while businesses were shuttered around the world because COVID-19 devastated the economy, crippled practically all industries, esports was seen as the best time to work without taking care of the madness. Many who would have merely gone to sporting events, theater theaters, gymnasiums or some other recreational places had no other option on the go. Fortunately, we have seen growing popularity in sports and video gaming. In case of pandemic, there was already a growth market, now it has caught fire. In fact, the esports phenomenon is becoming very popular and you will often see a sports betting forum discuss the odds of major esports tournaments. That’s right, some of the best online sportsbooks offer the lowest prices in competitions like the recently concluded TI10, as well as many others. In some cases, betting on it has become a little more popular than traditional sports. You know your sport is hitting the big time when bookies are taking action on it.
University of Ohio is in the top five for AR/VR programs.
A new wave of esports developers is being developed in our university’s new schools of higher learning, and Ohio University was ranked in state’s top 8 field with Augmented and Virtual Reality. They were ranked 36th in the United States, thus giving you a little insight about what the global popularity of virtual and augmented reality has become in academia. According to Dean Scott Titsworth, thank you for the recognition of our outstanding skills in this rapidly growing field. Our students have access to hands-on experience in AR and VR starting their first year. Associate Professor John Bowditch, director of Game Research and Immersive Design Laboratory, said, the University of Ohio has invested so much in AR/VR to become an international hub for AR/VR research and education. We hope future recognition will attract diversity students from the world.
VR/AR in Sports on The Way, Its Way!
The modders have done that because there have been limited number of titles in VR esports because professionals need their mechanical skills and precision to excel. The VR headsets we use today aren’t ideal for major events and competitions, however we see a remake of Resident Evil 2 and 3 being tinkered to fit the virtual realm. Earlier this year, Facebook announced that over 60 titles available for their VR headsets, Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2. In Quest 2, the preorders were five times bigger than Quest, who debuted only two years ago. That signals a market that is growing and yet to be fully cultivated. When the clock stayed for three or four years, a lot of titles worth a million dollars is rewinding. That’s an important thing, one of which, you know, an important trend line that doesn’t suggest that VR is growing. And the Facebook announcement isn’t the only evidence. It’s just not surprising that Facebook surged since the Quest line was announced, but it’s also important that you see stuff on the PC-based game platform Steam and whatnot, suggesting more PC gamers are also doing it. The cost of the headsets is one of the biggest barriers to entry for virtual reality gaming. Motion sickness is another obstacle, but if the cost goes down, the demand would certainly rise and we’ll see many more VR titles on the shelves. As the VP of Product Development at Red Storm Entertainment at Ubisoft, Elizabeth Loverso provided the following with a choice of VR to appeal to users, but also to a wider audience, giving gamers unique experiences. For hardcore gamers, it is a more immersive way to play some of their beloved franchises. VR appeals to more casual audiences when it comes to virtual space without the same complexity as traditional games. As VR technology continues to evolve and exciting new games are released, we hope more players can unlock their potential.
