No matter who likes Double Fine, it’s not necessarily surprise that it’s working on several things at once. It is, out of Psychonauts 2 and Brutal Legend, the studio is known for its rapid development of various original games if it is overturned. In fact, it was quite surprising that it worked on a sequel called Psychonauts 2. In fact, it looks like it’s back to its old style, as we’ve revealed in a new email from Psychonauts 2 backers and report from VGC. Although some of the emails are meant to support backers, a little paragraph is at the end mentioned what Double Fine is now doing, with it confirming that it has already started on some new projects. A letter reads: “Psychonauts 2 has essentially ended up being a project though a lot of new things will be done as we move forward. The studio’s already splitting up to a lot of teams and starting various projects that you’ll enjoy. We love experimentation here at Double Fine. Each game is for a chance to explore new ideas, new designs or new genres, emotions, etc. Psychonauts 2 was the chance to revisit and reimagine the classic that rubbed our studio into the future. It’s been a long process, but we like to think the payoff was pretty good. We stuck to the landing. In a talk with TheGamer earlier in the year, Tim Schafer talked very briefly about Double Fine’s future, adding: “I think both the team and I are expecting something totally new.” Weve got large things, Schafer explains. We’re just prototyping something, we have new ideas, but nothing’s all anyone’s ever heard about. If you’re hoping for the new Psychonauts game soon, don’t take it. When she asked about a third game, Schafer said: “There aren’t any plans for three games now.” Don’t be sorry for that. We don’t lock the door on anything.”
