Instagram has tested new feature, which will get people to log off after a select period of time, announced this week. The Take a Break option is “opt-in” and allows people to pick reminders after 10-20 minutes. If they’ve been waiting for time, they will be prompted to give a break and provide a few suggestions for what they might accomplish, such as listening to a song or taking a to-do list. Tweet Mosseri explains that the feature will start showing up for some users in the coming days, but note that if you don’t see this, you’re likely to get it in a month or two once we get to a place where they were comfortable enough to launch it to everybody on Instagram. Mosseri says the move “is part of a broader effort to try to gain more control over Instagram’s experience. Eventually, you know what you’re capable of using the app; kindly let us make you know what you need to do. We want to make sure that you provide an Instagram application that works for you. So you will see more ideas like this coming as well. Tom Clegg, a former Global VP, discussed this feature last month, and introduced other tools to protect younger kids from unwanted content and behavior on Facebook and Instagram. The move is quite common a time. Last year, TikTok introduced similar breaks to keep me informed. Watch out for him, too. Apple offers screen time settings so that users can use an iPhone and iPad, while Google has Digital Wellbeing on Android. There’s a lot of other apps, such as Facebook and Instagram. We can see how much time you spend on them.
