Photo Credit: Konami. Konami announced the move to remove two and three metal-based goods from a wide array of digital storefronts, including GOG.com and Nvidia Shield. The removal is apparently “temporary” and refers to the use of licensed footage at cutscenes. “We’re working on renewing the licenses for historical archive footage used in games,” explains Konami. “Comfore, we decided to discontinue the sale, from digital stores in Japan as of the same date as November 8th, 2021, of Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and all merchandise that include these games into the consoles worldwide. We want your patience, patience, and understanding as we try to make these products available for purchase again. Thank you for your continued support of the Metal Gear series.” MGS 2: Substance appears still available on GOG.com (or I can add it to my cart, but expect it to change very quickly). The items IMM2 and III have been removed from the Nvidia teleport app. It entails all types of variant titles outside of PC, as was Metal Gear’s early age. The series was oddly platform-locked in a number of respects, because of its size and influence, particularly with MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, which never was released outside PlayStation 3. PCG asked Konami to ask a few questions about the timing and what to expect. The publisher wouldn’t comment on time, if the game’s will be changed by any means until they are re-installed. I asked if the licensed footage refers to the different clips that are interconnected with game footage. MGS2 and MGS3 both feature news clips of, for example, John F. Kennedy, and historical events like the Cuban Missile Crisis. Konami confirmed that this is correct, but wasn’t able to make the announcement about it. It would seem like in a long time that Konami agreed 20-year deals for the first release. The MGS2 is going to celebrate its 20th anniversary on November 13, the 13th, in five days. It’s probably that, when Konami realised that this was coming up, it just decided to resolve the issue in MGS3 simultaneously (he was released almost three years after MGS2). Even if the publisher sells the games correctly, it doesn’t matter which way, but it’s clearly the most important one to view the price of these titles. That’s a big budget history, and certainly it’ll be available on PC. There are signs that Konami is finally ready to continue with the series, the latest rumours suggesting that a new entry is in early stage of development, and that the remakes of certain main entries will precede this. Whether today’s news is related to that is unknown.
