As reported before the official release of the Xbox Power On documentary series, Microsoft claims to have learned from its mishandling of the British based developer. Shortly after Fable 2, Microsoft invested in Kinect when Fable fans started feeling blindsided. The short Kitty exclusive Fable: The Journey was the first thing that people wanted after the much misjudged 3-digit Fable. They could work on Fable Legends instead of making an error. This was another direction that Fable players didn’t want to take. Despite many years of imposed restrictions and criticism, Microsoft shut Lionhead Studios in 2016. That is why Fable Legends took over. The director of Xbox One Phil Spencer said that he’d like to change the way they plan to handle the acquisition today. Spencer said that you’ve got a studio for what they are great at now and you have an office that’s not to give them enough time to do what they do, but to help them improve their abilities. The comment about the absence of letting the studio speed up what Microsoft is doing appears to be a direct reference to the Kinect-day and multiplayer-driven Fable Legends, neither of which played to Lionhead Studios strengths. As soon as we have finished, the majority of the projects out of Microsofts acquisitions still have to come from the moment a new generation. When publishing people like this, we cant take these words in real value. As the games claim, they have full creative control, but all we can do is wait for this to be done talking.
