Bloomberg reports Intel wants to make silicon wafers in a factory located in Chengdu, China for the year 2022. When the company recently shared details of this plan with the US government, “Biden administration officials strongly discouraged the move.” The report doesn’t specify the exact nature of security concerns of the White House. The relationship between the US and China has reached the point where it could be anything from a fear of the stealing of Intel’s designs to the possibility of the hardware being compromised in some way. “Intel and the Biden administration have a talus to address the industrywide shortage of microchips. We’ve explored many ways to address that issue, said Intel. “Our focus is on the expanding substantial of our existing semiconductor manufacturing operations and our plans to invest tens of billions of dollars in new wafer mills in the USA and Europe.” However, some of the money comes from government sources, which is part of why the White House was informed about Intel’s plan to raise production in China from the beginning. If the money helps Intel deal with the chip shortage, he will also be able to bring back political baggage. In the meantime, the lack of the chips has displaced the supply of everything, from laptops, tablets and smartphones to automobiles, games consoles and satellites. People expect the water shortage to break up in 2022, but that doesn’t necessarily mean more supply.
