Sony began wishing to deliver 16 million PS5 consoles by March next year, but today cut its PS5 sales guidance by one million consoles; and in addition to lower numbers of manufactured consoles, that makes the switch to lower consoles for sale. The supply chain problems had already manifested in lower than expected PS5 console sales on September 20, 2021; as for the more Ignorance of Sony’s initial view and its real production capabilities, the gap between the initial focus and the actual production capacity seems to be increasing even further. The faulty logistical constraints have caused the PS5 to lose its smaller sales lead over the previous generation PS4. While the cavalcade toward the 10 million shipped consoles was faster to achieve for the PS5, its sales are now falling behind the predecessor, the PS4. Not much, a mere 400,000 units still separate both consoles. But the pandemic remains a testament to his impact and severity. Production capabilities have only grown since the release of the PS4 in 2014. In many countries and in each other, a slow, unpredictable, vaccine rollout can affect production, packaging and shipment by localization. Even daily contact between Sony’s assembly partners and component makers seems to only improve the situation a little further, – shipments usually come out of their original schedules. Every generation of the product has an impact. In addition, it produces delays for any elaborating console, from the one that’s just entering the production line to the one who’s waiting for the packaging order to arrive. The PS5 will remain on track all the time and its sales will probably be revised for the end of 2022, too. The sales target of 22.6 million PS5 by 2022 seems, at present, somewhat unfeasible. Adding insult to injury, scalpers are still active in the PS5 front, and they’re working very hard until there’s enough market penetration for the console that demands reappear. Fortunately, Sony is in its best effort to stop scalpers in their tracks (at least in the US) with a direct purchase option being available on its website. From the start of the latest generation consoles, it was a bit of an exhausting ride in the virtual world, and it was a new generation of enabled, and a way to get rid of the current reality, but not without the current system, but more still the resiliency of the revolution. In detail we’ve written a comprehensive report looking back at both Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox – it’s a simple way to get the full picture of what happened a year ago.
