The Seattle-based developer is Sony’s fifth direct acquisition in 2021, and furthermore, the list of companies under the umbrella of PS Studios, with new partners in-house. Since the start of the project, Valkyrie developed a self-taught development studio. But the company has only released a single game, the free-to-play action strategy, Guns Up!, which was published by Sony for 2015, and was also published. Valkyries main objective is to work with other major developers to help them create their own games. This co-development support service has led the developer to work with Sony, Microsoft, Riot Games and more on titles such as God of War (2018), Halo Infinite, Lonely Legends and VALORANT. Valkyrie was already working closely with Santa Monica Studio before that acquisition helped with the development of God of War: Ragnarok. Valkyrie Entertainment is a highly respected and adaptable studio with many platforms from console to PC – from games-a-service to action, said Director of PlayStation Studio. Every team at PlayStation Studios welcomes Valkyries of diverse abilities, while we continue to focus on delivering extraordinary gaming experiences. Sony has purchased Housemarque, Nixxes Software, Firesprite and Bluepoint Games throughout 2021. As Hulst noted when Bluepoint was introduced, PlayStation Studios always open to building new relationships or bringing people in-house, so it could be the next year of an acquisition in 2022.
