That UKEL, that sat below and allowed teams to qualify for Riots now-scrapped UKLC, will not run a LoL league in 2022. The news comes as Freaks 4U entered the US-speaking realm as a organiser of the UK-Ireland/Nordics project, and Riot announced the changes to its European Regional League. The UKEL said that it was in talks with Freaks 4U to see whether it could be involved in the new site of LWL. Unfortunately, we couldn’t provide Freaks4U support, said the UKEL in an update. Changing style to ensure our previous tournament structure isn’t tenable, and hence we won’t be providing a broadcast League of Legends league in 2022. We were still discussing with Riot how we can continue to participate in the UK scene, and if you can have more information, we will update it with all of the details. The UKEL We’ll not be continuing the league, but we may run other tournaments in the off season. We’re looking for work with partners and hopefully bring some open-house tournaments to the UK. The UKEL said that it won’t go anywhere for now, and that it will continue to support grassroots esports. UKEL plans on running tournaments in other esports. Some of which will be semi-pro leagues with fixed structure and broadcast, while others will be aimed at more amateur/casual level. The UKEL currently has a request for staff to help with its 2022 plans. The UKEL announced that Alex Synygy Winton stepped down from working with the UKEL to focus on his work with LDN UTD (whose future in NLC division 2 is up in the air), but that he’ll still be assisting [the UKEL] in an advisory role.
