The black and white slash-em-ups latest trailers give big energy to the Anisha Kurosawa project, with Hiroki hurling out the burning village to give vengeance. Sure, explosions are cool, but fire is just magnificent in monochrome. With the addition of being extremely eye-catching, the Trek to Yomis trailer showcases some of the weapons that youll wring out to be useful. Swords? Check. Bows? Check. Shotgun? Hey! Wait, what? Yes, there’s a moment when Hiroki dispatches an enemy using an explosive device of any kind. It seems to be an anachronism, given that Trek to Yomi is supposed to be conducted in Feudal Japan. But, no, gunpowder-fuelled weapons were used in the sixteenth century, a fact that makes us a lot less confident that wielding a sword will give us the edge. We didn’t spot a rifleman in this new trailer but they’ll figure into Trek to Yomi. Even if you know how to close a distance with someone who can shoot it, it’ll be interesting. Trek to Yomis combat looks pretty fluid, but can cool moves really see off a guy with a gun? It’s not all slaughter. The trailer also shows Hiroki sitting stony-faced, while the women weep. We were assuming that this is Hirokis fallen master, but it could just be his father, and it would probably cause a bigger blow to losing his master. We wouldn’t count on a happy ending, just a bloody ending. Publishers Devolver Digital revealed that Trek to Yomi will hit Xbox Game Pass on the day it’s released. It will be going to land on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S and PC in spring 2022.
