The original Gex was a 2D platformer, but it began when most platforming franchises had gotten out of 3D. With the huge popularity of Super Mario 64 in 1996, it’s not surprising that Gex became all a three-tiered player – Enter the Gecko. Unfortunately, The Gecko and Gex 3 did not get the same acclaim, which is not just the reason that the series was unable to fold. As of the past fifteen years, developers and publishers realized the fact that there are two and three versions of a single platformer, it would be interesting to see what a new Gex game might look like. The 2D platformer, with modern graphics and sound like Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, could be a great way of giving back the character to current platforms. Of course, a 3D option like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart might also work this time around. Unfortunately, it’s only conjecture in the moment. I’m not sure if publishers and developers re-re-up the trademarks, but the next generation of games isn’t that good at taking it for granted. Nintendo has often done the same with Eternal Darkness for the last 19 years. Although you’re a close friend of mine, that will be pretty good, not so long. The next project, of course, is in Crystal Dynamics’s history. For now we’ll just have to wait and see. Were you like Gex games? Would you like to see this series come back?
