The new partnership focuses on supporting projects that improve the internet access in rural, remote, and native communities. Each government will raise 150 million dollars for this initiative. Alberta made that commitment back in July. The government will match the funding through Universal Broadband Fund, which supports Internet projects across the country. The details on which projects to be funded will be announced early next year. High-speed internet access is essential to the success of all the people living and working in rural communities, says Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development. [This] announcement will deliver high-speed Internet access to unserved households in Alberta with reliable, high-speed access to their loved ones. This will help create jobs, improve access to health and education services, and keep the community connected with their loved ones. ShutterStock is the source of pictures.
